Boat trips run from the nearby harbour to the Farne Islands, famous for their nesting seabirds and grey seal colonies. The picture postcard village of Bamburgh, protected by its dramatic fortress, is just 2 miles north with its wide expanse of golden sandy beaches. The tidal island of Lindisfarne, known locally as Holy Island, can also be viewed from here.
